The Governing Body has recently been reconstituted specifically to broaden the skills base of the Governors. The Governors come from varying backgrounds including Local and National business, as well as parents and community interests, all of whom bring a wide range of skills to the post.

The key issues that have been faced by the Governing body this year are as follows:

  • The appointment of a new Head Teacher and Deputy Head Teacher.

  • Set and manage the new financial budget within very strict constraints.

  • Continue, monitor and evaluate pupil progress ensuring we make good progress throughout the curriculum across both Key Stages.

  • Made appropriate challenges that ensure Leadership and Management are at the highest levels supporting staff with training and development.

The Governing Body is committed to working with the Head Teacher and staff to promote and continue to develop the highest standards of educational achievement and personal development for all our pupils. “They are fully committed to the pupils in their care” (Ofsted 2014)

School Improvement Plan (SIP)

Governors work in cooperation with the Head Teacher and Senior Managers in writing, monitoring and evaluating the SIP. The plan sets out the aims and objectives of the school over a period of 3 years.  It is based on the current priorities identified from data analysis, Self evaluation.and Ofsted priorities.  The plan is reviewed at termly meetings and presented alongside the Head Teachers report.

The current areas of priority for 2016-2017 are;

  •  To raise the attainment of reading throughout the school, with a particular focus on developing inference and deduction.
  • To review and develop effective roles of all staff in school.
  • To embed an effective Assessment and Tracking System in school.
  • To ensure high quality provision for the Early Years Foundation Stage.

Actions from Ofsted June 2014 -these still remain a focus in school and are part of the SIP.

Increase the amount of outstanding teaching by

Increasing the opportunities for pupils to write at length in different subjects and in different contexts.

Ensure marking helps pupils to move on and how to improve.

Ensure work is not too easy or too hard.

Improve provision in the Early Years Foundation Stage by

Making sure that outdoor activities better support the development of children.

Ensure all adults observe children's development more closely to enable them to move on in a timely fashion

All governors have received  training relevant to their role, all mandatory training has been undertaken. Training is reviewed and updated at the termly meeting.
